France Lockdown — Day treize
29 Mar 2020 — daily ramblings from Paris
People everywhere in lockdown has been trying to reach out to their friends and families. Using social media to extend and reach out the community beyond one’s living room or balcony. Its fascinating to observe that a set of vocabulary is becoming the new lingua franca on news channels, internet. Its changes the way we communicate and make it easier during this difficult period.
I’ve pulled together a list for you taken from my environment. I’m not the owner nor the creator.
Coronavirus (or corona for short)
This must be one of the most used word now in the world. Coronavirus is not a single virus but a collection/family of viruses. People are using Covid-19 and coronavirus interchangeably.
COVID-19
SARS-CoV-2
This is the name of the type of coronavirus that is causing the Covid-19 disease. I learned this myself recently.
Social distancing
Keeping distance from people when you go out to the supermarket or traveling on a public transport. In France this is 1m apart but it differs from country to country. This will reduces the chances of you getting or spreading the disease.
Flatten the curve
You’ve heard this phrase especially during daily briefings by government officials. Its simply means slowly the spread so the healthcare system resources are able to support the incoming cases.
#Restecheztoi #Stayathome #IStayHome #StayHomeSafeLives
These hashtags have gone viral on social media. People are using it to echo government’s effort and support each other as a community.
#WeApplaud #OnApplaudit
This hashtag is used to show appreciation and gratitude not only to medical professionals but also everyone in the frontline working around the clock to ensure everything is running. This include the police force, army, cleaners, food delivery workers and public transport workers. I’m sure they’re many more. Let’s show them some love.
#StayAtHomeChallenge
Healthcare workers everywhere is asking the public to stay home. So people use this hashtag to share creative ideas how to pass time at home.
#SafeHands
Celebs are on this hashtag demo-ing the right way to wash your hand. Do it as frequently as possible. Get some moisturiser cream on those hands before bed.
#ViewFromMyWindow #ParisFromMyWindow
These are my favourite ones. Very popular on Instagram. Snap a picture from your window or balcony and share them with one of this hashtags.
Coronacation
I think this is like a staycation. Stay home and make it comfortable.
I read somewhere this and its very insightful.
You are not stuck at home. You are safe at home.
Covidiot
Don’t think I need explain this very much. But you know who you are.
If you have more leave it on the comment section or message me on Facebook or Instagram.
